Melanie Hempel, Jake Tu Lab
Virginia Tech University
Melanie Hempel is a PhD candidate in Jake Tu’s lab in the Biochemistry department at Virginia Tech. Her research focuses on genetic biocontrol strategies for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, specifically using the sex determining pathway and chromosome engineering to develop efficient methods for sex separation to support mass release programs.

Directions to Annenberg Presidential Conference Center at Texas A&M’s Bush Library
- The Conference Center is located in the building adjacent to the George Bush Presidential Library.
- Any valid parking permit will grant you access to a couple of specific parking lots next to the conference center (Lot 43 and Fan Field).
- The Bush School Bus Route-05 will take you to the front door of the Conference Center. This route stops at the MSC, Kleberg, Lot 97, and AGLS before making its short trip to the Annenberg Conference Center at the Bush School.
